As I stand and meditate
I try to contemplate
Just what I aught to do
You sit and patiently wait
Expecting something great
It makes me feel so blue
So I will put my talent to the test
And do my very best
To entertain you for a moment or two
As I share my country life
With its glory and strife
For maybe a laugh or two
On a piece of ground
With no neighbors close around
I was born a ranchers son
There among the rocks and trees
With the snakes and bees
Is where my life begun
I beat a trail
Carrying wood and a water pail
When I was a lad
But it wasn't long
till I grew strong
And then I helped my dad
We dug a well
And built a corral
Then we made the road
We laid out the farm
And built the barn
Without a building code
I have milked the cow
And held the plow
I've filled the barn with hay
I have lost my sleep
Tending the sheep
and Sunday was just another day
Life was raw
For my maw and pa
Their work was never done
They cut the night
With a coal oil light
To beat the morning sun
When the weather was rough
And times were tough
They still carried on
They saved their dough
To soften the blow
For when they were gone
The day is dawning
I wake up yawning
I fumble for the light
I scratch my head
As I leave my bed
I have made it through the night
I rub my eyes
And view the skies
On my way to the outdoor jon
As I sit and meditate
I try to contemplate
Where my life has gone
Well I took a wife
To share my life
We found two babes along the way
They learned and grew
Time sure flew
They are young ladies here today
So now with pride
I will step aside
And let them do their thing
As I stand and ponder
Filled with wonder
Just what the future will bring
