Costs

School hikes run from late October through the end of April.

Access fees: 1 class $300
2 classes $400
3 classes $500
* Includes teachers and chaperones

If there are 3 classes from a school, then we usually split the classes, with 1 ½ classes hiking per day – to keep groups smaller for better learning opportunities. The 3-class cost is not affected by splitting the days. If necessary, we can accommodate all three classes in one day.

Teacher Information about hikes

  1. Parental permission and MMF liability release forms to be signed before entering the Buttes.
  2. Parent/chaperone ratio of at least 1 chaperone for every 6 youngsters.
  3. Each child should carry their own backpack with sack lunch and water (no sweet drinks or candy*). Please include a mid-morning snack.**
  4. Students and chaperones are to wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather and terrain. Please encourage students to wear hats.
  5. Bring cameras and writing/drawing materials (if required for an activity).
  6. Discipline to be the responsibility of the teacher and chaperones. Guides do not monitor student behavior.
  7. Artifacts, bones, and other finds are to be left for everyone to discover.
  8. Vehicles are to be kept to a minimum. Car-pooling is required. All participants must stay with the group and not leave before the termination of the hike activity.
  9. All students are to wear name tags. (stick-on kind are fine).
  10. Please send the “flyer” (next page) to parents before the field trip to assure that students (and chaperones)are properly informed about the field trip.

*Students who eat candy or a sweet drink for lunch tend to run and increase the risk of injury both for themselves and for others around them.

**Because our lunch stop sometimes occurs later than the students’ normal lunch time, a mid-morning snack helps.
